Do you know what factors have an impact on an African American’s mental health? Although the black lived experiences vary, shared cultural factors have a significant role in mental health amongst the demographic. This webinar will offer attendees a better understanding of what is needed to improve mental health services for African Americans. The presenter will provide culturally responsive approaches, community defined strategies and recommendations for care based on studies she has compiled and lead. She will share useful advocacy tools and skills needed for providers to partner with families living with our supporting a loved one impacted by mental illness.

  • Distinguish considerations that are culturally appropriate when offering care to African American consumers and their families

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ or a certificate of participation may do so by viewing the live presentation and completing the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (other disciplines) showing the event date and hours earned.

  • Gigi R. Crowder, L. E. Executive Director for NAMI Contra Costa, has served as the Ethnic Services Manager for Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and has worked in the Behavioral Health Care field for more than 28 years after completing her studies at the University of California, Berkeley. As a family member of several loved ones who have received private and public mental health services she is a strong advocate for promoting culturally responsive behavioral health services for all consumers and family members. Gigi is also the FaithNet Coordinator for the last eight years and has volunteered with NAMI CC to advance efforts to promote utilizing natural resources such as those found in faith/spiritual communities.
