This webinar will provide an overview of the goals of screening for unhealthy alcohol and drug use, and discuss validated screening tools, including the Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription Medication, and Other Substance Use (TAPS) Tool and single-item screeners. Screening implementation will be considered, and guidance offered on how to select screening tools and implementation strategies that meet the needs of an individual practice or program. Finally, attendees will be introduced to resources that are freely available to support screening implementation.

• Utilize the alcohol and drug use screening guidelines, including current guidelines and state of the evidence regarding screening for medical patients.
• Evaluate specific screening instruments and general principles that may guide the selection of a screening approach.
• Incorporate screening tools in the practice setting, including use of a new resource to guide implementation decisions.

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™ or a certificate of participation may do so by completing all sections of the course including the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.
