This Virtual Immersive program goes beyond a simple introduction to artificial intelligence (A.I.) for psychiatrists; it offers a comprehensive overview of how A.I. tools can revolutionize their field and practice. Join us to discover how A.I. can be utilized by psychiatrists to streamline the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of psychiatric disorders. Delve into innovative approaches where A.I. enhances patient and caregiver engagement in accessing essential services. Engage in discussions surrounding the ethical considerations of incorporating A.I. in psychiatry and explore its implementation in policy and healthcare.

  • Understand the basic principles of artificial intelligence and explore how chatbots are developed and function, particularly in the context of psychiatric practice.
  • Examine the ethical considerations, potential risks, and best practices for the development and utilization of generative AI technologies in mental health settings.
  • Identify key applications of AI in child and adolescent psychiatry, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention delivery.

  • Describe at least three challenges faced by modern psychiatry within a "latent constructs" framework.
  • Compare "Big" (i.e., large-N) and "wide" (i.e., N-of-1 or single-case) approaches to studying psychiatric disorders.
  • Comprehend the mechanisms of AI-powered therapy apps, including their functionality and service delivery facilitated by artificial intelligence.
  • Assess the promise of therapy apps by critically reviewing the evidence regarding their efficacy and their impact on mental health care.
  •  Recognize the limitations of therapy apps, including challenges related to reliability, scope, and user engagement. 
  • Examine real-world applications and case studies of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in psychiatry, including its effectiveness, challenges, and ethical considerations in clinical practice.
  • Discuss the future potential and upcoming advancements in NLP that could further enhance psychiatric assessment and therapy, promoting a deeper integration of technology in mental health services.
  • Discuss strategies for integrating artificial intelligence into psychiatric services within both traditional and virtual healthcare settings.
