There are three traditional split or shared treatment roles in psychiatry: consultative, supervisory, and collaborative. This presentation will address the risks associated with each role, the importance of understanding the state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the formation of doctor-patient relationships, providing consultations, and acting in the role of a supervisor, and uses case examples to illustrate the different shared treatment models and to identify risk mitigation strategies to reduce liability exposure.
