Description

The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) is now offering a new Article-Based Continuing Certification (ABCC) Pathway as an ongoing professional journal article-based assessment activity designed as an optional alternative to the Continuing Certification Part III traditional 10-year recertification/CC examination. Diplomates will be required to successfully complete a set of article exams for each of their certifications on an ongoing basis every 3-year block. Each year, ABPN selected articles from the American Journal of Psychiatry, as part of the ABCC Pathway program. APA offers over 90 of the selected articles to members for free. The article assessments are accessed online through the ABPN Physician Portal. The traditional 10-year Continuing Certification (CC) recertification examination will continue to be offered for those not interested in participating in the program. *Completion of this activity grants CME credit only. Participants who wish to claim MOC credit for this activity must do so by completing the corresponding article quiz on the ABPN website. *

Fees and Funding Information

There is no cost for this activity or to earn CME credit. APA is making this activity available to its members as a benefit of APA membership.

Target Audience

Psychiatrists

Estimated Time to Complete

Duration: 1 hour
Begin Date: March 30th, 2023
End Date: March 30th, 2026

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ or a certificate of participation may do so by completing all sections of the course including the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.

In order to earn CME credit from APA, access each article in the activity list and read through the material presented in the article. After reading the article, submit the required evaluation (participants will need to complete a separate evaluation for each article) and claim study hours to receive your certificate. Each article awards up to 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Participants should only claim credit for the articles read*. All members are eligible to earn CME credit; participation in continuous certification is not a requirement.

MOC Credit

If you are participating in the ABCC Pathway and wish to earn MOC credit from ABPN, visit the ABPN website and complete the quiz that corresponds with the article you have read. Diplomates must correctly answer at least four of the five questions correctly on the first attempt. For a given article, once a quiz has been started it must be completed in a single sitting. Click here for additional information about the ABPN Article-Based Continuing Certification (ABCC) Pathway.

Continuing Education Credit

In support of improving patient care, the American Psychiatric Association is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The APA designates this enduring CME activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Planning Committee Disclosures

The American Psychiatric Association adheres to the ACCME’s Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Medical Education. Any individuals in a position to control the content of a CME activity — including faculty, planners, reviewers or others — are required to disclose all relevant financial relationships with ineligible entities (commercial interests).
