CBT approaches to the suicidal patient have been proven to reduce rates of future attempts. Collaborative efforts to reduce hopelessness and development of specific anti-suicide plans are important features of this method. This workshop will briefly review research on CBT for treating suicidal patients. Then the central features of CBT methods for suicide risk will be demonstrated. Role-plays will illustrate key points. Particular attention will be paid to development of the CBT elements of safety plans for depressed patients.
