Youth mental health has been at a crisis level for many years with addictions in youth on the rise. This session features a panel of psychiatrists who have expertise in dealing with various addictions in the child and adolescent populations. An overview of current substance use statistics in this population will be presented including vaping as well as the modern issue of internet gaming and social media addictions. The panelists will discuss their experiences as child and adolescent addiction and forensic psychiatrists as well as the perspectives of a psychiatry resident entering child and adolescent fellowship training. The session will also highlight the American Psychiatric Association Foundation’s Notice. Talk. Act. ® at School mental health professional development program which is designed to empower all K-12 school staff to notice mental health warning signs in students talk with students about these concerns and act by connecting students to resources. This training is one of the ways to help address youth mental health concerns including addictions. This presentation is an opportunity for all clinicians including trainees to learn more about the youth addiction landscape learn how to address these concerns in their young patients and make a difference to their communities.

How to Earn Credit
Participants who wish to earn 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™ or a certificate of participation may do so by completing all sections of the course including the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the event date and hours earned.
