Abstract

Description 

This presentation highlights the importance of effective practices to engage adolescents with substance use disorders in treatment. The discussion focuses on recognizing the best practices in preventing and treating adolescent substance use disorder. The presentation: 1) Review the current trends in adolescent substance use. 2) Describes why adolescents are particularly vulnerable to opioid and other substance use disorders. 3) Describes the risk and protective factors for adolescent substance use and high-priority groups. 4) identifies evidence-based community, school, family, and peer prevention strategies.

After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (other disciplines) showing the event date and hours earned.
