An APA lecture series that examines strategies and opportunities to improve the mental health of historically marginalized and minoritized communities.
Learning Objectives
- Explore the independent and interactive effects of acculturation (i.e., heritage and U.S. cultural practices and identification) and sociocultural stress (i.e., perceived discrimination, perceived context of reception, and bicultural stress) on alcohol initiation among Hispanic youth.
- Analyze the long-term association between maladaptive substance use and cultural phenomena for emerging Hispanic adults.
- Analyze the systemic and cultural barriers that exist for Latino/as that exacerbate SUD treatment disparities and outcomes.
- Understand the impact that public health programs and initiatives have cross-culturally to improve access to care in Hispanic communities.
