Overview

The course, “Interpersonal and Structural Trauma in the Criminal Justice System” goes over social injustice and mental health, childhood trauma, structural trauma, as well as the effects and implications of trauma on juveniles and adults in the criminal justice system.

Format

Recorded webinar, interactive, self-paced distance learning activity with post-test.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the structural issues that patients and families of patients encountered or at risk for encountering.

  • Recognize principles of social injustice and healthcare system inequities.

  • Identify childhood trauma and population risk factors like poverty, learning disabilities, and family dysfunction.

  • Explore the biological and psychological aspects of an individual’s upbringing and the impact that it has on an individual’s development.

  • Utilize practical applications for service providers working with juveniles and adults with carceral system involvement.

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ or a certificate of participation may do so by completing all sections of the course, including viewing the full video and submitting an evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (other disciplines) showing the completion date and hours/credits earned.
