Overview

The 2025 APA Annual Meeting Self-Assessment in Psychiatry is a series of 100 questions that will help a physician self-assess current knowledge in major topics in psychiatry, providing feedback that can be used as the subsequent basis for focused CME, lifelong learning, and/or professional development.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of the activity, participants will:

  • Describe new research findings in psychiatry and neuroscience and how they may impact practice.
  • Apply quality improvement strategies to improve clinical care.
  • Provide culturally competent care for diverse populations.
  • Describe the utility of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological treatment options.
  • Integrate knowledge of current psychiatry into discussions with patients.
  • Identify barriers to care, including health service delivery issues.

Target Audience

Practicing psychiatrists, residents, psychologists, social workers, and all other professionals on a mental health care team, interested in assessing their level of knowledge regarding current psychiatric practice and clinical advances and streamlining their experience at the Annual Meeting.

Estimated Time to Complete

Estimated Duration: 8 hours
Program Release Date: February 3, 2025
Program End Date: December 31, 2025 (11:59pm ET)

How to Earn Credit

To earn credit for the Annual Meeting Self-Assessment, participants complete all questions and the evaluation and review their score. The minimum performance level requirement is fulfilled by answering all questions and by receipt of a score and peer comparison. This activity is designed to identify areas for improvement and further study; credit will be awarded for completion of the self-assessment.

The answers, rationales, and references for further study are provided. We urge that as a minimum, the rationale for each question answered incorrectly be reviewed. Many participants may wish to review the rationales for all of the multiple-choice questions. Participants will receive a detailed score report and peer comparison online. After completing the course, you can then claim and print your CME certificate.

Continuing Education Credit

In support of improving patient care, American Psychiatric Association (APA) is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABPN Approval for Continuing Certification (Self-Assessment)

The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has reviewed the APA Annual Meeting Self-Assessment in Psychiatry and has approved this program as a part of a comprehensive self-assessment, which is mandated by the ABMS as a necessary component of continuing certification.

APA reports continuing certification completion data on behalf of our members directly to ABPN, however, diplomates are still required to log on to their ABPN Physician Folios at least once per calendar year to attest to completion of their continuing certification activities.
