Description
People with mental illness experience significantly higher rates of premature mortality, often by 15 to 20 years, due primarily to natural causes like cardiovascular disease. This session reviews the most impactful medical literature of 2023, particularly focusing on studies related to cardiovascular risk and their implications for individuals with mental illness. This comprehensive review highlights hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity—conditions disproportionately affecting this population—and provides clinicians with a practical framework to ensure patients are receiving standard-of-care interventions.
