Overview

Strong physician leadership is essential for excellent patient care and desired by medical organizations. As new psychiatrists enter the workforce they are frequently offered leadership opportunities within clinical institutions shortly after completing their training or even at the outset. However medical training rarely focuses on leadership in fact most training programs do not offer any formal leadership didactics or rotations. Many early career psychiatrists lack the knowledge and tools to feel confident in leadership positions. Evaluating these opportunities in the context of their professional and personal goals can be daunting without proper guidance. The increasing stress associated with leadership roles and the tension to maintain personal wellness further adds to the complexity in these roles. In this interactive workshop our panel will guide you through: 1. Career Path Insights: Explore when to seek out leadership roles and how to approach administrative opportunities. 2. Skill Building: Gain hands-on experience in conflict resolution and other essential leadership skills. 3. Risk Management: Learn from a forensic psychiatrist about managing clinical risk from a leadership perspective and supporting colleagues in medical malpractice situations. 4. Wellness Integration: Participate in small group discussions on balancing lifestyle considerations with leadership responsibilities ensuring personal wellness remains a priority.
