Description
Collaboration between mental health professionals and faith communities has evolved significantly over the past few decades. Historically, interactions have ranged from cooperative to skeptical, but recent efforts—exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and workforce shortages—have driven a renewed focus on integrating mental health support within faith-based institutions. This session explores the history and future of the APA-led Mental Health and Faith Community Partnership, a pioneering collaboration between psychiatrists and religious leaders. Participants will learn about key initiatives, such as Mental Health: A Guide for Faith Leaders, and examine case studies of successful mental health programs within Black Church communities and Muslim faith communities. Finally, the session will discuss training and educational needs for professionals working at the intersection of mental health, religion, and spirituality.

After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.
