Residency-based exposure to research will help trainees assimilate emerging theoretical knowledge about biology, neurotransmitters, genetics, epigenetics, impact of trauma, and other psychological stressors on patients. Despite the overarching benefits, residents find it challenging to pursue scholarly work due to a limited number of formal research training opportunities, increased pressure on mentors to maintain revenue based clinical activities, lack of clarity and consistency among programs about scholarly goals, and protected scholarly research time. This presentation will help enable programs with limited funding and resources to overcome some of these challenges.

• Incorporate novel strategies to improve interest of residents in scholarly work and facilitate development of academic clinicians.
• List resources to help medical students and residents in writing/publishing posters, abstracts, case reports, and articles.
• Review the application requirements of various APA/AADPRT, ACP/AACAP fellowships, awards, and scholarships.
• Write more effective letters supporting residents for awards and fellowships.
• Decrease apprehension regarding research, especially among residents with limited research experience.

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™ or a certificate of participation may do so by completing all sections of the course including the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.
