Description 

Despite clozapine’s efficacy as a life-saving treatment for schizophrenia and suicidality, it remains underutilized, especially among racial and ethnic minority groups. This session explores the multifactorial barriers to equitable clozapine access, including prescriber hesitancy, monitoring challenges, and constitutional neutropenia disproportionately affecting individuals of African descent. Through clinical case presentations and evidence review, this session aims to empower clinicians with tools, monitoring strategies, and risk-benefit frameworks to confidently and equitably prescribe clozapine. Presenters will share successful implementation models from New York State’s Office of Mental Health and community-based initiatives. Attendees will gain knowledge to close treatment gaps and advocate for systemic improvements in clozapine prescribing.

After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.
