The session will critically examine the current evidence supporting metabolic-targeted interventions, including insulin-sensitizing agents, anti-inflammatory approaches, nutritional psychiatry, and mitochondrial modulation strategies. Clinical implications for psychiatric practice will be explored, including metabolic screening, collaboration with primary care and endocrinology, and identification of patient populations most likely to benefit from metabolic interventions. Participants will gain a practical framework for incorporating metabolic considerations into psychiatric assessment and treatment planning while maintaining evidence-based caution regarding emerging therapies.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the current evidence base for metabolic-targeted interventions in psychiatric care, including insulin-sensitizing agents, anti-inflammatory approaches, nutritional psychiatry, and mitochondrial modulation strategies.
  • Identify patient populations within psychiatric practice most likely to benefit from metabolic-based interventions, based on clinical presentation, comorbidity profile, and psychiatric diagnosis.
  • Apply a practical framework for incorporating metabolic screening into routine psychiatric assessment and treatment planning, including appropriate collaboration and referral pathways with primary care and endocrinology.
  • Evaluate the equity implications of emerging metabolic psychiatry treatments, including disparities in access to specialized care, and discuss strategies to mitigate these gaps in diverse clinical settings.

Target Audience
