This webinar will present basic definitions of Neurofeedback and Biofeedback, and describe key points to keep in mind in assessing the evidence base for traditional EEG neurofeedback as well as pirHEG (passive infrared hemo-encephalography- based neurofeedback in psychiatric practice. There will be education about the difference in medical devices, and wellness devices for biofeedback and neurofeedback, as well as the difference in the research needed to support FDA approvals for biofeedback devices vs that needed for medications. Also addressed will be assessing the risk/benefit determination for appropriate use of biofeedback and neurofeedback wellness devices in the comprehensive care of patients with stress-related illness and symptoms in a psychiatric practice, and the relevance to informed consent and discussion of treatment options.
