Description 

Social media and influencer culture have become powerful forces shaping public discourse around mental health. While this connectivity allows greater awareness and destigmatization, it also presents challenges such as misinformation and unrealistic portrayals of mental health and treatment. This session explores the evolving impact of social media influencers, celebrities, and athletes on mental health perceptions, treatment utilization, and patient expectations. Participants will analyze structured techniques for integrating social media history into psychiatric evaluations, and will receive practical tools for better understanding how digital influences affect patient behavior, mood, and treatment compliance. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating critical dialogue with patients about the role of media in shaping their mental health views.

1. Identify how technological advances have positively and negatively influenced communication about mental health.

How to Earn Credit 

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ may do so after completing all sections of the course including the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the completion date and hours earned.
