She emphasized that some human autopsy and cardiovascular studies have detected these particles in brain tissue and arterial plaques, with associations suggesting possible links to dementia and cardiovascular events, though causation has not been established.<br /><br />The talk also covered plastic-related chemicals such as BPA, phthalates, and PFAS, which can leach from products and act as endocrine disruptors. These chemicals have been associated with neurodevelopmental harm, obesity, diabetes, infertility, and other health effects. She stressed that plastic pollution is not just a consumer issue: the full life cycle of plastics—from fossil fuel extraction to disposal—drives greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and environmental injustice, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities.<br /><br />Her main message was that while research is still evolving, there is enough evidence of plausible harm to justify action now: reduce single-use plastics, expand reuse systems, improve regulation, and lower personal exposure where possible.
