Pdf Summary
Combinatorial pharmacogenetic decision support tools show promise in guiding the prescribing of antidepressant medications, but more research is needed to determine their effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. Several commercially available tools, including GeneCept, IDgenetix, CNSDose, and ABCB1-guided treatment strategy, have been reviewed. GeneCept testing improves medication adherence and leads to cost savings. IDgenetix testing is useful for individuals with multiple psychiatric diagnoses and leads to medication changes and cost savings. CNSDose-guided treatment increases the likelihood of achieving remission compared to treatment as usual. ABCB1-guided treatment improves response and remission rates. However, additional research and the inclusion of more genetic variants are necessary to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of these tools.
